We are back this 2022 with 9 Spellbinding Mountaineering Expeditions that would leave each day on the trail action-packed to the hilt!

From enduring extreme weather conditions, climbing near-vertical ice walls, navigating narrow, precipitous gullies to crossing tricky, crevasse-ridden glaciers, each expedition carries within itself nuggets of technical challenges picked straight out of every mountaineer’s to-do list.

Spread across Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, and Ladakh, this select list is meant for seasoned trekkers who have completed at least one trek falling under the difficulty level of 6 on the Bikat Rating Scale.

1. MT. DEO TIBBA

Dates: 8 May, 25 Sep, 2 OctLocated just over 6000M, Mt. Deo Tibba is the second highest peak in the Pir Panjal Range of the Kullu Valley. Although an extensive ice cap sits at the peak of Mt. Deo Tibba, the actual summit happens over a snow hump located at the edge of an ice plateau which makes it a perfect mountaineering experience for beginners. Although marked as a beginners’ expedition, it is not to be taken lightly. The capricious nature of weather and terrain conditions at high altitudes can escalate the difficulty of the climb to unforeseen levels.

2. MT. BLACK PEAK

Black Peak is the highest peak in the Saraswati mountain range near Ruinsara Valley of the Garhwal Himalayas in Uttarakhand. In the local dialect, Black Peak means “Kalanag” since the top part of the peak resembles a Black Cobra. It is the most dominating peak of the entire Bandarpunch massif. Providing a gradual climb from the Southern side eventually leading to a very steep summit climb with a near 70-degree incline and a 75 feet ice wall, the climb to the summit of Black Peak is challenging and technical. It is only chosen by professional climbers for an adventure of a lifetime. The black peak is located in the Govind National Park area known for its diverse flora and fauna. The trail leading to the mountain is blessed with magnificent alpine meadows, pine forests, moraine ridges, boulders, and glacier basins.

3. MT. HANUMAN TIBBA

Mt. Hanuman Tibba at 5932 M is one of the most thrilling peaks to summit in the Pir Panjal Range of the Himalayas near Manali. The trail to this pyramid-shaped peak passes through the beautiful alpine meadows of Solang Valley, glaciers, and rivers of Beas Kund and finally across the imposing Tentu Pass giving you stunning and diverse change in the scenery all throughout the trek. This expedition is meant for those aspiring to push their limits and take it up a notch from regular trekking but only with prior trekking experience since the Hanuman Tibba expedition is no small feat involving technical climb and high fitness level to successfully undertake this epic expedition. 4. MT. NUN

Mt. Nun, the highest peak of the Nun Kun massif is located in the upper Suru Valley. Being the highest peak in the Zanskar Range and on the Indian side of the Line of Control, the twin peaks of Nun and Kun (7077M) are separated by a 4km long snow plateau. Mt. Nun and Kun along with Barmal, White Needle and Pinnacle Peak are shaped like a horseshoe over the Suru river along the Kashmir and Zanskar border. The expedition to Mt. Nun is for experienced mountaineers only aspiring for 8000M+ peaks. Prior knowledge of technical and mountaineering techniques such as the use of ice axes, roping up procedures, crampons, and jumar climbing is a must. Due to the technical ascent to the summit along with extreme and unpredictable weather conditions and rough terrain demands aspirants to be physically fit with high mental endurance. 5. MT. SHIVLING

Mt. Shivling (21,467 FT) is undeniably one of the most beautiful mountains in the world located at Tapovan in the Western Garhwal Himalaya. The tooth-like jagged snowcapped peak was once referred to as the "Indian Matterhorn". Shivling's monstrosity can be best witnessed from its base camp Tapovan rising to a staggering height of 6543 M. 6. MT. SATOPANTH

Mt. Satopanth is the second highest mountain in the Gangotri group of mountains in Uttarakhand. At 7075 M, this peak which in local dialect means "True Path", is quite a daunting expedition. The route includes a complex glacier approach, high angled snow slopes, and a technical knife-edge ridge, before the final section to the summit. This expedition is meant only for aspiring mountaineers with prior knowledge of the use of ice axes, crampons, roping up procedures, and jumar climbing. The extremely unpredictable weather conditions and the challenging terrain encountered while undertaking this expedition demands the aspirant to be extremely physically fit with a high level of mental endurance. 7. MT. BHAGIRATHI II

Mt. Bhagirathi 2 (21,365 FT) is the second highest peak of the Bhagirathi Massif located in the Gangotri range of mountains in the Garhwal Himalayas of Uttarakhand. The peak rises to a height of 6512M right above the Gangotri glacier and the river Bhagirathi which later forms Ganga emerging from Gaumukh. Mt. Bhagirathi 2 is the most popular among its sister peaks of Bhagirathi 1 (6856M) and Bhagirathi 3 (6454M) owing to its less technical approach to climbing. Gifted with mesmerizing views of the famed peaks of Thalaysagar, Shivling and Meru, the Bhagirathi 2 peak climb is not for the faint hearted. Significant prior trekking experience along with previous mountaineering experience of 6000M+ peaks is a must to undertake this challenging yet glorious expedition. 8. MT. KEDAR DOME

Mt. Kedar Dome (6832 M) is a dome-shaped peak located in the Garhwal range of the Himalayas in Uttarakhand. Located 2km from the Northwest side of the religiously significant Kedarnath Peak, Kedar Dome and Kedarnath surround the Gangotri glacier at two sides. With the famous Gangotri trail taking you through stunning landscapes and harsh terrain, the climb to Mt. Kedar Dome is from the standard route of the Northwest side which poses fewer challenges and difficulty compared to its extremely treacherous eastern side. With the height of the Kedar Dome peak a little short of 7000M, this expedition is for mountaineers looking to gain significant altitude with relatively less technical difficulty. The dome-shaped peak gives you splendid views of the Gangotri range of mountains. The base camp of the trek is the Kirti Glacier. The route to the base camp gives you unobstructed views of the Bhagirathi group of peaks, Mt. Shivling, Mt. Meru, and many other monstrous giants of the Garhwal Himalayas. 9. MT. NANDA GHUNTI

Mt. Nanda Ghunti (6309 M) otherwise known as the "Veil of Goddess Nanda Devi" is a peak in the Garhwal Himalayas lying in the Nanda Devi National Park. You will get a glimpse of this mighty peak from the famous Roopkund trail along with the mighty trident shaped Trishul massif. Mt. Nanda Ghunti has attracted serious mountaineering enthusiasts looking for a challenge. In spite of not being technically difficult, the mountain is infamous for its unpredictable weather conditions and crevasses en route to the summit. The summit gives you unimaginably gorgeous views of Mt. Trishul, Chaukhamba massif, Kamet, Nanda Devi, Dronagiri, and many more. Starting from the famous Roopkund trail, the trail deviates to Homkund which is the base camp of the trek. Mt.
