How To Reach Raithal

Gateway to the famous Dayara Bugyal trek, Raithal is a quaint village located in the Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand. Known for its community programmes, the village has a thriving local population who have grown to sustain themselves with the help of such programmes. Their homes are built in traditional Garhwal style of architecture and some of them are even open for visitors to stay.

Raithal has all the characteristics of a quiet mountain village with warm welcoming locals and stunning views of the Himalayas. The Someshwar temple is an added point of interest when you are in Raithal. It is home to the deities Shiva and Shani and it stands right opposite Mt.Shrikant, offering staggering views of the Himalayan ranges.

In this article, we provide details on how one can reach Raithal through different modes of transport depending on their convenience.

The nearest major city to Raithal is Dehradun, which is 180 kms away.

Dehradun can be reached by:

1. Flight

One can reach Dehradun by flying into Jolly Grant Airport which is located at a distance of 27 kms from the city. There are regular direct flights available from Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru and Hyderabad, and connecting flights from all other major cities.

2. Bus from Delhi

Dehradun is located at a distance of 257 kms from Delhi. Both government and private buses ply regularly between Delhi and Rishikesh. The distance is usually covered in 6-7 hours and the cost of the bus ticket ranges anywhere between Rs. 300-700.

3. Train from Delhi

There are daily trains that run between Delhi and Dehradun. Janshatabdi Express, Mussoorie Express and DDN Shatabdi Express run on an everyday basis. These trains take approximately 7 hours to cover the distance and the cost of the ticket ranges between Rs.200-1500 depending on your train and coach preference.

Reaching Raithal from Dehradun:

1. There is no direct bus connectivity from Dehradun to Raithal. One can take a bus from Dehradun to Mussoorie. Buses ply regularly from Dehradun Railway Station to Mussoorie Bus Stand. At the Mussoorie Bus Stand, one can find government run buses to Uttarkashi between 5 AM to 8 AM. The ticket fare is around ₹400. One can also find private buses that run on an hourly basis. From Uttarkashi, there are shared taxis that will take you to Raithal.

2. One can also hire a private taxi from Dehradun to Raithal. The fare is typically  upwards of ₹5000 depending on the number of people and the type of vehicle hired.
