Beas Kund vs Bhrigu Lake

Giving you a teaser of Himalayan trekking, both Beas Kund and Bhrigu Lake take you through varying terrains to give you panoramic views of the mighty Dhauladhar and Pir Panjal ranges. Lush green meadows, snow capped mountains, water bodies, they have it all! Located in Himachal Pradesh, both these treks have grown in popularity over the years given their proximity to Manali. For someone looking to do a short trek, both of these could prove to be highly appealing and also maybe confusing?

In this article, we compare both Beas Kund and Bhrigu Lake to see how they stand apart which could aid your decision in picking a trek.

Beas Kund or Bhrigu Lake?

Difficulty Level

Both Beas Kund and Bhrigu Lake are rated Level 2 on the BRS (Bikat Rating Scale). This means that both these treks are beginner treks and are accessible to people with little trekking experience who would like to test their limits with Himalayan trekking. Both the trails are suitable for beginners and are pretty easy if you are in good health. Trekking is an adventurous activity in the mountains and naturally both the treks involve camping in tents, low temperatures and a good amount of walking through varying terrain.

Beas Kund covers a total distance of 32 kms taking you to an altitude of 3700 M while Bhrigu Lake covers 29 kms taking you to an altitude of 4267 M. While the distance for Bhrigu Lake might seem short, it is a steady ascent for 7 kms in the beginning which can prove to be challenging and requires good leg strength to get through comfortably. The trail of Beas Kund has a moraine crossing which is tricky but not impossible  to navigate. Such terrain can throw challenges of imbalance and subsequent injuries which can be avoided with care and caution.

Peaks Visible

Surprisingly, both these treks offer views of a few main peaks in the region and each view is magnificent in itself.

Beas Kund gives you glorious views of Hanuman Tibba, Friendship Peak, Ladakhi and Shitidhar.

At its staggering altitude, Bhrigu Lake offers views of Seven Sisters, Hanuman Tibba and Deo Tibba. You can even see Beas Kund Valley from here during the day! These views don’t fail to captivate and will keep you going at every step of the trek.

Terrain

The terrain encountered on both these trails are starkly different.

The trail to Beas Kund is largely through boulders and rocks in the summer and through snow in the winters.

The Bhrigu Lake route differs from this and offers a variety of terrain throughout the trail. It begins through thick coniferous forests and opens up into vast meadows with grasslands that look like they don’t end.

Both trails are beautiful in their own way and don’t fail to mesmerise you!

Flora and Fauna

This bit is for you nature enthusiasts out there.

The trails of Bhrigu Lake are home to Oak, Birch, Cedar and Pine trees along with Rhododendron and Juniper. Magpies, Swifts and Woodpeckers can be commonly found in the region and if you are lucky you may even stumble upon a black bear!

Meanwhile in the Beas Kund Valley, one can find Fir and Spruce trees in the lower parts of the trek and juniper bushes as you progress higher. The state bird of Himachal, the Monal, can be found soaring in this region and is a great spot for bird lovers!

The above are a few factors you might want to consider while choosing between Beas Kund and Bhrigu Lake. Both the treks are a magnificent journey into the mountains, offering captivating views and marking the beginning of many more Himalayan treks to come! We hope this article helps you make a more informed choice based on your interests and should you wish to know more, our team is always available to help.
